Dahlias
Check this space in February 2025 for our curated list of home grown Dahlia varieties!
Growing Tips:
The best time to plant dahlia tubers outside is after the soil warms up, usually by mid-April. If you are keen to start early, tubers can be planted into pots in March and placed inside a greenhouse or cold frame until the risk of frost has passed. Do not water your tubers until the first growth appears.
Plant your dahlias in a sunny location with well-drained soil. Give them at least 12-18 inches of space - they can get big! Taller varieties will need staking.
Dahlias require consistent water throughout the growing season so setting up drip irrigation ahead of time will help them thrive.
Dig your tubers out of the ground in autumn to store in a dry, frost-free location such as a greenhouse or shed. Check out our article for detailed tips on how to overwinter your Dahlias successfully.
Dahlias will continue to produce beautiful blooms all summer and make for beautiful cut flower arrangements - enjoy!
